I graduated from Edinburgh University in 1979 with an MPhil in Clinical Psychology. I had ealier studied for the BSc at Lancaster University between 1973-1976. For over 30 years I have worked as a Chartered Psychologist-Clinical, AFBPsS.

From 1980-1987 I worked for the Child and Family Psychiatry Service in Galway, Eire. I was Principal Clinical Psychologist at Airedale General Hospital from 1987-1989 then becoming District Clinical Psychologist at FGH, Bury Lancaster. For nearly 20 years until 2007 I worked to develop mental health service and the Psychology Department at Bury. Between 2001 and 2002 I was Director of Mental Health Services, taking the local service into the new Specialist Mental Health Trust, Pennine Care.

Since 2008 I have developed a private practice in Skipton. This includes therapeutic work by GP recommendation and referral. Direct private self-referral is also encouraged. I combine this therapy practice with Medico-Legal work and Sports Psychology. From 2008-2010 I also worked part-time within Mediuim Secure Psychiatric Services, for Cygnet Hospital Bradford.

Throughout my managerial career I have continued to deliver psychological therapy. I have been influenced in practice by family therapy and family systems theory. I was strongly influenced by RF Hobson's book, Forms of Feeling (The Heart of Psychotherapy) and this school, known as Conversational Psychotherapy. I was also heavily influenced by ID Yalom and his book The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy. I gained a Diploma in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP in 1998 and have since gone on to develop an interest and expertise in Mindfulness training. In therapeutic work I draw on the efficacy of CBT and link this to Conversational Psychotherapy and Mindfulness.

I consider myself to be an integrative psychological therapist. I have over thirty years experience of all aspects of mental health difficulty and psychiatric disorder.
