Biography Page

Since qualifying from the University of Edinburgh (M Phil Clinical Psychology 1979) I have over thirty years experience as a Chartered Psychologist helping people change their thoughts, emotions and behaviour. I have worked in mental health with adults and children and families. In 2011 I gained a Masters in Sports and Exercise Psychology from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN).

I have a Diploma in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP (BHR 1988) and training and experience in Mindfulness. I am currently building a Sports Psychology practice aimed at developing potential in sports people of all ages and abilities, amateur and professional. I am particularly interested in teaching the practice of Mindfulness to help athletes develop their focus, concentration and the flow state. While experienced in the use of CBT for change I believe, and research suggests, Mindfulness training is a powerful tool in the skill set of sports people.

In 2011 I conducted Mindfulness research at the Adam Cox Tennis Centre, Skipton Tennis Club and have experience in delivering consultations and training in the four key domains of Sports Psychology; Goal setting and motivation, Self-efficacy and confidence, Focus and concentration (Mindfulness), Emotional Management and mental toughness

In January 2012 I will be developing a Sports Psychology Service to elite junior tennis players at Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club. This will focus on the development of mental skills and strategies.
